Paper Champions is a 2-player, basketball-themed, rummy-style card game. The gameplay is all about creating the best possible hand of 2 guards, 2 forwards, and 1 center for $30 million or less. Being a huge basketball fan growing up, making Paper Champions was an extremely natural experience for me. The numbers and balancing are really based on intuition that has built up over years of watching, following, and playing basketball. Using this intuition to translate stats into three base-10 attributes (offense, defense, intangibles) results in a surprisingly balanced, fun, and fluid game that doesn’t require prior basketball knowledge to enjoy (although basketball fans will have heightened appreciation of the game).
